    DEEPSOIL is a specialized engineering software program for modeling the propagation of seismic waves through soil layers.

    It was developed by the research group of Professor Yousef Hashash at the University of Illinois, USA. The program is intended for specialists in earthquake-resistant construction and geotechnical engineering.





    DEEPSOIL can be used to:

    Model earthquakes: calculate how seismic vibrations propagate from deeper soil layers to the ground surface.
    Account for soil nonlinearity: model changes in soil stiffness and damping under strong vibrations.
    Calculate pore pressure: model changes in pore pressure under seismic loading, including the associated processes occurring in the soil.
    Perform linear and nonlinear analyses in both the time and frequency domains.
    Generate plots of acceleration, velocity, displacement, and response spectra at different depths.


    What is it used for in practice?

    For example, suppose there is a construction site where a building is planned. Geologists have determined that the upper layer consists of soft clay, below it is sand, and at greater depth there is dense soil.

    DEEPSOIL allows engineers to evaluate how an earthquake originating below the ground will change as it passes through these soil layers and what ground motions will occur directly at the surface.

    This is important for calculating seismic effects on buildings and structures.
