    Description
Course Overview: Revit 2025 – Site Setup to Full Architectural Modeling in a South African Context Software Used:Autodesk Revit 2025Standards and Compliance:South African Surveyor General (SG) database SANS 10400 National Building Regulations Municipal drawing requirements and estate guidelines This course is designed to equip architectural students and junior professionals with the technical and practical skills needed to use Autodesk Revit 2025 effectively from project setup through to complete architectural documentation.

The course contextualizes Revit workflows within the South African built environment, with emphasis on real-world procedures such as importing SG diagrams, aligning with local building lines, complying with SANS standards, and preparing professional drawing packages for municipal submission.

The course is delivered over 11 detailed lectures, each progressing through core phases of architectural design and documentation, beginning with site setup and concluding with publishing annotated construction-ready drawings.

Who Should Attend:Architectural Technology students Junior architects and technologists Built environment practitioners seeking Revit proficiency in the South African context Learning Objectives:By the end of the course, students will be able to:Source and model property boundaries from SG diagrams Create custom Revit templates aligned with South African standards Model site topography using CAD overlays Design substructure and superstructure systems with appropriate detailing Incorporate doors, windows, roofing systems, internal layouts, fixtures, ceilings, and finishes Utilize keynotes and annotation tools for professional documentation Export and publish Revit drawings in compliance with municipal and estate requirements Course Structure (Lecture Breakdown):

Lecture 1: Site Setup Using SG Diagrams Learn how to obtain and interpret SG diagrams via General Surveyor and ARGIS.

Import and accurately model property boundaries in Revit, including estate-regulated building lines.

Lecture 2: Architectural Title Block CreationSet up a compliant title block for your project.

Incorporate project data, approval stamps, revision schedules, and annotations as per SANS 10400 Part A.

Lecture 3: Revit Template & Wall Family Creation Build a reusable template including wall types and materials (new/existing).

Create 220mm and 270mm walls including cavity and foundation walls using SANS-compliant layer colors.

Lecture 4: Topography Modeling Using CAD Contours Create a 3D terrain using Revit’s Toposur face tool.

Import CAD files with contour data, align and scale drawings, and assign elevation values to shape site slopes and drainage conditions.

Lecture 5: Foundation & Substructure ModelingModel foundation walls, floor slabs, and strip footings. Set project levels for public/private/garage spaces and apply top and bottom constraints to maintain structural accuracy.

Lecture 6: Superstructure – Walls & Stairs Develop multistory walls above foundation level.

Create staircases with landings and railings using Revit’s Stair by Component tool. Apply proper wall heights and multistory relationships.

Lecture 7: Door and Window Placement Insert and modify doors and windows. Load and customize families to suit design needs and add annotations and schedules for quantity reporting and labeling.

Lecture 8: Roofing and Parapet Wall Construction Create trusses, roof structures, battens, fascia, and gutters. Add parapet walls to roof perimeters and manage slope controls and surface treatments.

Lecture 9: Internal Walls and Fixture Placement Define internal spatial layouts with partition walls. Insert fixtures such as plumbing fittings, cabinets, and built-in units. Annotate and schedule components accurately.

Lecture 10: Ceilings and Brandering Systems Place ceilings including vaulted or sloped types. Add brandering (support grid) systems beneath the roofing structure and adjust materials and finish levels for interior detailing.

Lecture 11: Keynotes and Drawing Publication Create custom keynote families and assign them to components.

Compile and publish drawing sheets with title blocks, legends, and annotation systems, ready for municipal submission.
Final Outcome:Students will leave the course with a fully modeled and documented building project in Revit 2025, a working Revit template which the students can update over their career, and the skills to carry out professional documentation aligned to South African building codes and submission protocols.
