Preface
This book is focused on a fundamental and challenging research area—Image and Video Interpretation—and it covers all aspects of image and video analysis from the low-level early vision to the high-level recognition and interpretation in image and video data. These techniques have received increasing attention due to their potential in numerous real-world applications, such as visual communications, computer-assisted biomedical imaging, and video surveillance. For example, a video surveillance system exploits a set of spatially distributed video sensors, each of which is equipped with a video camera to capture, transmit, and process visual information about a scene. Such capability has led to massive research efforts devoted to research challenges in the design of a system for collection and dissemination of video data and the development of algorithms for processing and meaningfully interpreting the data collected. The above trend has motivated us to propose this book with the aim to consolidate recent research achievements that address broad changes in both theoretical and applied aspects of image and video interpretation.
This publication aims to consolidate state-of-the-art research achievements that address broad changes in both theory and application of image and video interpretation.
It can serve as an important reference in image and video processing for academicians and researchers.
The target audience of this book is composed of professionals and researchers working in the fields of image and video processing in various disciplines. This publication has received overwhelming responses and received high quality
submissions from several countries. All submissions were peer-reviewed by at
least two independent reviewers. In the end, only 9 chapters were included in this publication.
