Preface
Sustainable Construction is one of three top priority themes of CIB pro-active approach, which has been carried out since 1998 next to the themes, Performance Based Buildings and Revaluing Construction. Though there is no unique solution for attaining sustainable construction, reducing input resources such as concrete and steel to building skeleton is one of the key strategies for realizing it in earthquake prone areas. However, there is a trade-off between reducing natural resources and increasing earthquake safety as long as it is based on traditional earthquake design concept. Response control technologies have the potential to resolve the trade-off and contribute to more sustainable building skeletons.
