This Manual provides guidance on the design of single and multi-storey building structures using structural steelwork. Structures designed in accordance with this Manual should comply with BS EN 1993-1-1: 2005

(EC3 Part 1-1), BS E N 1 993-1-8: 2005 2 (EC3 Part 1-8), BS EN 1993-1-10: 2005

1 (EC3 Part 1-10) and BS E N 1994-1-1: 2004

(EC4) where applicable. It assumes that the Nationally Determined Parameters from the UK National Annexes are applied. It includes the corrigenda issued by BSI to Eurocode 3 and 4 up to the end of February 2010. 4

It is primarily intended for those carrying out hand calculations, especially for initial layout and/or sizing of members. It is not necessarily relevant to computer analysis. However it is good practice that such hand analysis methods are used to verify the output of more sophisticated methods.

In many cases the expressions in the Manual are not those that appear in the Eurocodes. Where they are exactly the same as those in the Eurocodes they are referenced by an equation number and a reference to the Eurocode part e.g. (5.5 EC3-1-1) is a reference to equation 5.5 in Eurocode 3 Part 1-1
