Precast concrete

Precast concrete has been a part of construction for many years. It is a

versatile product that is widely used in offices, car parks and commercial and

industrial developments of all kinds. In buildings, precast concrete is most

commonly used for frames, floors and cladding. Factory-engineered concrete

provides consistent high quality, with economy, durability, inherent fire

resistance, dimensional accuracy, fast erection and a freedom from site

influences. A wide variety of details and finishes is available. While units

are usually simply reinforced, prestressing and post-tensioning offer

greater structural performance. Elements are normally cast in forms

made of concrete, timber, wood, steel, glass fibre or a combination of these

materials. The forms are designed to be durable and allow mechanization of the

factory process. Economies ,of production are achieved through repetition

and automated processes.
